i was wondering what people think of a fish of the month competition like the household pet of the month competition, where members post pics of their fishes and get nominations and other vote for a winner.

I've always wondered what good do this competitions/polls do? Does it really make you feel better if your gets selected?

No, why bother. Posting the pictures and getting comments are nice enough to me. Matter of fact, if the household pet of the month ended, that would be fine by me as well.

Just my opinion.

gets a little tedious after a while, as people with expensive fish/rare fish would always win...... discus, rare plecs, aros, rays etc.

Oh don't you just love negativity

Competition....a healthy word in my book but not for everyone I can see :shifty:

Personally I wouldn't enter as although (imo) I have some interesting fish they are not competition worthy but I would watch a thread like that with great interest. However , as far as judging were concerned my vote would be cast on which fish I liked the look of rather than breeding excellence. Other's might vote differently so the 'winner' or 'looser' would be inconclusive by a mile. Still, it would be fun anyway.

Interested in the prize you would be giving out though Tucan :hey:

Oh and as far as expressions like "a little tedious" and "why bother" WELL I do think that some members here forget that there are younger (and older) and not forgetting the novice that enjoy things like this.

I think it makes TFF sound a bit stuffy if you don't mind me saying

I would like to see something like that in place, but it has been discussed many many times before and the mods aren't keen (or at least haven't been in the past).

I think TFF did stage these competitions in the past and the winners were almost a foregone conclusion, people were creating new member accounts to vote for themselves, people started complaining................ you see where I'm going with this.

BTT :good:

 CRIKEY! I was thinking of just a running thread with maybe a poll not a full blown competition! Do see what you mean though.....I went to a Discus show once and it did open my eyes to competition fever, didn't realise. I only thought marrow growers got that frantic ;)

*edit* spelling....again

It has indeed happened in the past, and is certainly more trouble than it's worth. Look up Martha for a previous winner.

Have to go with majority here, I don't like the idea, where would you start, freshwater, brackish, marine, all mixed together, species. :dunno:
To much hassle I think members already post their photos and can get feedback from this via the forum, don't think polls/competitions would work
What one person loves another hates :p

I'd love i personally and would gain pleasure from being nominated if it ever happened!! lol

we have potm and its basicly the same thing!

thats one is for other household pets and not many fishes get to enter that

as someone who know not a lot about fishes, i couldn't tell which one is expensive and which one is rare and i'm sure that i can say a lot of newbies are too, so personaly i would choose the pic i like best

lmao. how about a jar of air for every winner? i will personally donate the jar myself

lol. exactly, a molly may even beat a discus or a tang maybe?

i seriously doubt that, albeit some forums have a tank of the month, and the winner goes to someone with good husbandry skills and presents their tank well.
