Okay we've not done one for a while so here goes :)

This month it's barbs. So pick your fav Barb, if it's not there post your fav below. If it's a cichlid leave it for another month. We'll get round to it :)

I thought the tigers would win it by a mile!! I voted for the cherry barbs one of the less agressive species of barbs which can safely be kept with other fish. Yes I know duncan you keep your tigers with other fish but hey u just got some nice ones ;)

I came close to getting some cherry barbs actually but that is another story ;)

sorry to be a party pooper ;) but i dont like any barbs :hmm:

Sue ~ Cichlids will be arriving soon. just hold on. Before it was a list of mixed fish but now were tring to keep it to a particular flavour. We've done livebeares so it will be while before they come round again.(Sorry William) we are of course open to bribes and things could change. ;)

fishut and microscope fund donations gratefully recieved here.

or I could post my own topic :) Besides the previous months had always been my doing  stealing my ideas

:D Ticto/odessa/2 spot barbs every time! Lovely colours, nice size @ 4", very active but peaceful and not too difficult to breed. ;) Mac.

Me having a nasty temper when provoked (takes a lot to get me temper flaired) have to go with the Tiger Barb. The plain old nasty tempered Tiger Barbs. I want me barbs. Think I just found what is going into the soon to be new species tank. Tiger Barbs!!!!! Dusty is going to kill me for this one. Rose

Definitely my Odessa barbs :D Although my tigers are great too!

Barbs are a pathetic fish, suited only to the novice looking for eye candy. They present no challenge and their behavioral patterns are predictible and repetative.

Just one of the reasons people hate americans - they know best all the time

Seriously though, why don't you make up and suggest the fish for this months poll it would be interesting to see which fish you would clasify as being "non pathetic" .

definately green tigers :)
i don't know about pathetic and only suited for a novice, the only problem i have w/them is the adult size.they just ain't big enuff to keep w/my goby and carpenti(goby ate 35 t barbs) but other than than that, nothing beats a school of asst tiger barbs(albino is my second choice  )

William I agree with you completely. here we try to help and inform everyone of all levels.

Two examples would be Knifefish and certain Loaches. Both species offer more than eye candy and predictible behavior. Barbs are better suited for children intent on dressing their tanks with brightly colored gravels and plastic plants.

So tell us what fish would you recommend for a complete beginner then or someone with very little experience no matter what their age? or would you rather let them get a 40 gallon tank and stock it with some Dermogenys pusillus, a few Apolocheilus dayi and a couple of Channa micropeltes  ?
