I have a number of Tropical Fish in my tank. Just lately a number the excrement has been left at the bottom. I have hoovered this twice, but it just seems to push the mess around the water, then once I have changed 25%, it settles down and is all back. Any ideas ?

I use a "Profile Gravel Vac Battery Operated High Performance Aquarium Cleaner" (which is a really long name for a battery operated vacuum). They can be purchased from Petco for about $20. It works VERY well for me, powerful enough to pick up waste and debris no problem at all. Lots of interchangable heads, to get into tiny crevices, or large heads for overall gravel vacuuming, also glass cleaner and algae scraper. Very easy to use, and it's electric. :)

Here is a picture of one in Petco's catalogue.

Thanks Fellow Fish Lover !

I have exactly the same as that, but it just hoovers up my gravel, and doesnt seem to get the dirt. Any ideas to help with this as I really want it cleaner. Dont know whether its just because its very fine gravel.

Does it suck up the gravel into the bag? In other words, when it picks up the gravel, does the gravel just drop back down once you turn off the vaccuum? Or does the gravel make it all the way into the waste catching bag?

It takes the gravel all the way up to the bag until the bag is full. All I have been able to do is rinse the gravel through and replace and its so grubby.

im not positive.. but ive heard that those annoying little red snails that eat plants will also eat fish poopies.... bunch of them would probably keep it cleaner... i want some of those but i cant seem to get my hands on any... fish stores dont sell them im sure they jus kill em... and if i ask theyll prob think im a moron lol

so i donno
