I've noticed that one of my lyretails is dropping weight even though I believe he is eating. This is the same thing that happened to my female swordtail and she died just last week.

He's very active and shows no other signs of illness.

He is in a 26 US gallon tank and on my sig you can see what his tank mates are.

I believe my fry living in the same tank had fin rot but I treated twice for it and none of my adult fish have it.

I have been doing water changes about 2-3 times a week only 15% each time. I've been doing the water changes because of my fry. I always add the correct amount of de-chlorinator.

I do occasionally see stringly poop coming out of my fish but 9 out of 10 times the poop is thick and brown. Could it be a parasite? If so how do I go about treating it?

I do not know my water parameters. I just can't get my hands on a testing kit. I'm hoping my Mom will be able to send me one from the states soon. I've been waiting over a month for my lfs to get some tests in....they said they would be able to run some tests for me but....well like I said it's been over a month and still no tests are in. Makes me wonder how they are taking care of their own tanks without testing them?

Well any advice would really help!!

Oh my tank has been up and running for 3 months so I'm pretty sure it's cycled.

Thanks!!

:( I'm dealing with the same problem with one of my Marble mollies. The problem is an internal parasite. For treatment, get Jungle Parasite Clear, but for maximum effect also get Pepso food. Do you have another tank to use as a hospital tank?

Hi Sasha!

Yes I just have been reading about internal parasites and came to the same conclusion  :-(

I am in Sweden so we don't have jungle parasite clear or pepso food :/

Usually I buy a brand called JBL...I went to their website...but I don't know which medication is for internal parasites.

here is there website maybe you know?

http://www.jbl.de/uk/aqua/uk_krankbild.html

I will run down to my lfs as soon as I know!!

I believe it might be from the frozen bloodworms I occasionally feed them? Maybe I should stop doing that? I usually only feed them bloodworms once every 2 weeks as a treat.

Thanks so much!!

Also....will these parasites infect my other fish? Say if this fish that is ill now ends up dieing....do I still have to treat the tank??

I believe I need to buy

JBL Spirohexal?
