I inherited these 2 types of fish and I have no idea what they are, they were outside at the house before but due to recent frost I have brought them both inside. I have about 15 of each type and would greatly appreciate an idea of what they are. Thanks

let me know if you need bigger pictures or anything too

Yes the top one does look like a Panchax. The bottom one could be a small SAE (Siamese Algae Eater) or Flying Fox

the top one has irridescent spots on it though

and the other one doesnt have a suckerfish mouth if that means anything

Hi Katie...
Are you from the States by any chance.
I am a killifish enthusiast and that's what your fish are.
I had a lad on here before who used to go dip netting for endemic species all around his home in the Florida area.
I cannot remember his name or locate the threads he started.
You have two different species of fish that he was catching back then.
The first pic, is of Fundulus chrysotus or Golden Topminnow (juveniles) alongside those in the same pic are some young Lucania goodei (Bluefin Killifish).
Bluefin males are stunning under the proper and breeding conditions, although common in the United States they are pretty rare in GB. I wish I had some in my fish room.

They are both species of Killifish endemic to the southern states of America.
Here ya go! I managed to find one of his posts..I really should go back and pin these topics.

Yeah I am from the US, but from California and my uncle was well known for collecting wild species that he maybe should not have had

YES! it is deff the lucania goodei, cuz some of the males have that red on their fins but sadly no blue, at least yet

and that deff looks like fundulus chrysotus too
thanks so much maybe now I can do research on how I am supposed to be taking care of them and feeding them and whatnot lol

The last fish looks like a Characin, maybe Pencilfish?

Just read the thread you linked to BigC, amazing! Imagine being able to go out and just catch fish like that! All we'd get here are sticklebacks and minnows, ok if you like brown fish I suppose but not quite the same!

yah i have no idea where he would have gotten those because around here we dont even have native fish
just stocked dams and whatnot

any information on how to care for either would be greatly appreciated

Have you looked at the 'Seriouslyfish' website or the Killifish section of this site?
