Fish hiding places

My question is about coconut caves as hiding places. Do you have to treat the coconut with anything before putting it in the tank, and how long can it be left there?

Any help would be appreciated.

boil boil boil. boil atleast an hour total. boil for bout 20 mins, change the water, boil again, and repeat if necessary if your water is still very brown)

but apparently you only need to bake them for ten minutes??
