i had a few fish die a few weeks ago and thought it was time to add some new ones and they are a little bit smaller than the ones in there but the old fish have gone mad i have added new fish before and this has never happened the biggest one seems to have gone twichy any ideas and if anyone wants a big blue stripy African Cichlids who needs taking down a peg or two let me know as he seems to intimidate all the other fish till they die and not sure what to do with it so any good home feel free to email me

Many cichlids by their nature are highly teratorial - an older established fish will see any new additions as a threat and will not tollerate them. You need to be carefull about which cichlids you mix....

...and the size of the tank they are sharing :/

www :)

the tank is a big one so it was looking empty after 3 bigish fish dying
so its not the size and they are all from a mixed african cichild tank it was the twitching the worried me most is this just a sign of arrgession

My Pseudotropheus Estherae twitches quite often, normally just before he chases someone around the tank. Its not particularly agressive, in fact it seems more playful. He was the tank boss until i introduced a Pseudotropheus Zebra twice his size, that calmed him down a bit.

There's always a bigger fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couple of thoughts:

1. Rearrange your rockwork. This will destroy established territories and put everone on the same footing in claiming new ones.

2. Don't buy fish from a "Mixed African Cichlid" tank unless you can definitely identify what species they are. The odds of buying an incompatible mix are very high.
