I just got a saltwater tank a few days ago. I have 5 adorable mollies. there is one thing that i noticed today. one of the fish keeps getting stuck on the filter. when i first noticed it i thought it was dead. when i tried to get it out it swam away. why do they get stuck? is there something wrong with it?

in my experience, when a fish is getting stuck to the filter, it's sick and/or dying... they lose their ability to withstand the suction or something.

In case you didn't know, mollies are either freshwater or brackish.
Saltwater Has WAY to much salt in it for the mollies to survive.
I'd be surprised if the luived longer than 2 weeks.
Its killing them slowly.
Mollies are odd, because they all seem different. Some prefer alittle salt (very luittle) and some prefer completely freshwater.

my heart just sunk. get that fish outta there and put it in some fresh distilled water quick! the distilled water is only a temp thing, unless you have some tap water treatment. go get a small tank and put freshwater in that and move the mollies.

Mollies can be acclimated to full salt water, I've seen a saltwater ray tank that had anenomies, salt water rays, a few tangs and HUNDREDS of black mollies.

I have 6 mollies in my 180 litre tank, its freshwater, and they have never been happier, i got them when they were very little from the lfs, in fact he gave me them for free, as they were closing down, and they are 5 times bigger now than when i got them around 10 weeks ago, they are lovely.... Im no expert when it comes to salt, but neither of my 2 tanks has salt in it.

Good luck with your mollies :D

I wouldn't do that. Firstly, don't put a fish in distilled water, let alone quickly straight out of salt water.

Let's all step back and ask a few questions first. Mine is : saltwater?

Mollies DEFINITELY should not be kept in saltwater. That is why ur fish is dying and getting stuck to the filter. Mollies prefer brackih water, and can also be kept in freshwater aquariums.

I was told by the guy at the aquarium store that mollies can be converted to saltwater as long as its done slowly. which i did. i had taken him/her back to the store to see what was wrong with him. my fish guy told me that it may take a few more days for it to get used to the transfer. it is swimming around fine right now and has been for 2 days now. thank you guys for the help. And for the person whose heart sank... i would never do anything to intentionally hurt my sweeties. i was only following the advice of an expert. sorry for the scare. :p
