Fish Food Shelf Live

Not sure if this is the correct place for this thread?

But what is the shelf life of tropical fish food???

I have just started up again with my tank and I have some old food (approx 2 years)? The Cats I have purchased (Albino/Bronze) appear to like this, but the best before date is 2005 on the tin.

I know from my work in manufacturing that the BBD always plays on the safe side and generally vitamins and minerals will keep longer.

Should I throw out my food and get some fresh stock.

I'd like to find out about this too as some fish food doesn't state their best before (use-by) dates on the can.

Don't laugh, but, fish food, like human foods, lose vitamin and nutritional content as it ages. I would estimate that the fish food you buy should be completely used within 1-3 months. So....I think buying HUGE canisters is not a good idea if you don't finish them off within that time. SH
