One of my fish has developed some kind of substance on one of their eyes. It is black in color. Otherwise the fish appears fine. Any ideas?

Could it be an injury? Scrape or something, or is that always white or filmy. I only ask becasue often times when equine eyes are damaged they will have dark damage, not light like I expect. (I do a lot of work with the local equine vet - so I see several cases a year.)

No, it just looks discolored. I'm referring to the outside of the eye. It should be light color but instead it is black.

The pupil is still the right color I think. If it catches the light right, it still has that reddish shine you sometimes see.
