a thought come across the other day but i forgot what it was,

the thought was, is there fish out there that eat poo?

Best thing for clearing poo is snails they eat everything on the bottom even fish bones, crabs and shrimps some crayfish also eat poo but then if you have a problem with poo in the tank you might be overfeeding.

my gold gourami loves eating poo. when its floating around the tank he doesnt spit it out like the other fish do even if i watch him for 5 mins after... hes also always on the bottom eating up poo and other stuff. dont know if its all golden gouramis or just mine but its quite gross.

my guppies and platties eat poo occassionally and pretty much anything really lol they are well fed but so greedy bless them

Most of my fish will eat poo occasionally. Fish will try anything small enough to go in their mouth, but they either spit it out or if they do eat it, poo it back out later on, so in the end, it ends up in the gravel either way.

If you are looking for a fish or snail or anything else to eat what you should be cleaning, the answer is a definitive NO. Even if a fish did take some in, it would extract what nutrients it could and expel what was left. Processed twice would not reduce the total volume one iota. There are micro-organisms that will use the excrement as a source of raw materials but they will not keep the tank clean at all. In the low fish populations that you might finsd in the wild, the ratios are such that bacteria and plant usage end up taking care of fish waste. I have never seen an aquarium with that low a population or that high a plant population. Our fish live in a very artificially high population density.
