Fish Decision

Okay look, lets start simple. I am a very big newbie to this fish thing. If you found my thread earlier, it stated that I wanted a betta. This problem is, I have seen so many other fish out there on this forum and they all look very intriguing. I also have my eye on those little shrimps, they look so fun to keep.

I have an 8 gallon tank and I would like to have a lot of fun raising fish/shrimps.

Can people recommend me some fishes/shrimp they have or like (for beginners and somewhat cheap) that can fit into an 8 gallon tank. State what kinds and how many of these I can have. Perhaps even throw in some pros and cons if you may.

dwarf platies aren't a bad choice either
