Had a chance to read the Dragonet sheet now Lewis, I like the way you have put it together there are however a couple of inaccuracies:
PSYCHODELLIC MANDARIN
Synchoropus Splendidus
The Psychodellic Mandarin is one of the most popular marine fish on the market due to it's amazingly colourful markings and elegant technique of swimming. This specialist fish comes from the Indio-pacific Ocean and is classed as an animal for expert marine keepers due to it's dietary requirements.
Common names are
Green Mandarin, Mandarin Goby, Mandarin Dragonet
Minimium tank size is
60Gallon This is incorrect - if dietary requirements are met, can live in a smaller tank. Either with a refugium or copepod culture. however with neither of these the tank should have a minium of well established live rock, approx 50K and without other fish that mainly eat pods
Temperament is
peaceful and very non-confrontational however it will fight with other male's of the same species.
Eats copepods, it's diet is purely based on pods. Pods are small crustations that are basically marine bugs. They live within the
Live Rock and are normally active at night. In order to maintain a mandarin you require an established tank of at least 10 months to ensure that the food source is stable and able to withstand a new preditor.
You can culture pods in order to feed your mandarin. This is a fairly common method in keeping a mandarin due to the difficulties in feeding habits.
Another way is by building a small pile of rocks, not accessible by any fish, and feeding the pile every week with a very small piece of prawn. This enabled the pods to have a constant feed and a safe breeding zone from preditation.
Warning though, this will add to your bioload and could cause ammonia spikes
Temperature should be keep within normal range of about
73-80 degrees.
Reef Safe? Yes
Size for a fully grown mandarin is
4-5 inches
Hardiness? Very Hardy provided this fish is fed well. This fish must be bought in good health and should not be bought if too thin.
I would like to see a caveat here - hardy is not the same as Easy to keep!
Type of species is
goby Nope Dragonet
Breeding is possible in a marine aquarium provided a male and female are present. However the fry produced are very small and feeding these fry is difficult. There are very few reports of success.
