Excluded fish are Australian Natives for obvious reasons.

The fish in the lists are current available imports to Australia any excluded are because they are illegal or native to Australia and are therefore not needing to be imported. There are occasional exceptions as you may find a fish in a local establishment not on this list that is because it was bought of a private breeder or importer who has obtained a illegal fish. For example someone saw a Bichir in a Aquarium in Sydney Australia, the Bichir is illegal in Australia but is in rare cases sighted in local stores.

Note: Any errors that are found please notify me via this thread or via Private message and I will attempt to fix it up.

wow the Australian gov replys quickly to emails.

good for you raven for posting this, I think it is worthy of a pin.

Cheers Wolf

I was very suprised of the quick reply also :) I must also Thank Wolf for pointing me in the direction of the website for the relevant information.

Wow nice. Where is my country it isnt showing lol. LEBANON WHERE ARE YOUUUUUUUUUUUU?

I must also Thank Wolf for pointing me in the direction of the website for the relevant information.

you're welcome.

I do see one thing the Aus gov are slow on
and that is using uptodate taxons
for instance
brachydanio has been out of use in the scientific world for over a decade now

Yeah some of the names were awful I cleared a few up like it was Bumble Bee Fish instead of Goby... I am a little shocked at the lack of catfish available... no Synodontis Eupterus listed but are seen commonly in my LFS so perhaps they have been very recently stopped being imported...No shrimp or dwarf frogs available either they might be thinking don't want another cane toad.

Given what the cane toad has done to our environment can you blame them?

Your welcome Bozza & JRM

I was after a list of banned fish but that list would of been several more thousands and thousands of fish Lol!

Bit random really.....

'Males only Leiocassis siamensis Siamese Catfish, Bumble Bee Catfish'

I'm sure last time I checked you couldn't sex these....

And why can you import normal festivums but not albino ones? Surely albino ones prove even less of a threat to the environment due to less camoflauge, poorer eyesight etc...

shhh don't say that, the gov maybe watching and they don't know that. hehe.
