Hi,

I'm doing my first water change with chlorinated water today. I know you can let it set out for the night, so do i just fill up a bucket, let it set and treat it before I put it into the tank? or do i put the treatment in and let it set all night? anything would help, I'm used to really good water quality back where I used to live, just getting used to the city deal.

Thanks

"Letting it sit" will only work if the city is using chlorine, not chloramine, for chlorine will evaporate, but chloramine is much more stable. Before relying on evaporation, you should check with the city to find out exactly what chemical they use and if they ever use a different one in a different season for instance. It's much easier and safer to cut out the guess work and just use a commercial dechlorine/chloramine product. When i do a water change, i drain the water, then add the dechlor directly to the tank, then refill (with a python waterchange device). I've never had any problems using this method, and my city adds a ton of chloramine to the water.
