I just purchased a single Albino Cory to see how my betta would react. He reacted fine and now they live together but hes not moving much (the cory). Hes not bobbing his mouth or seearching for food. I know they like to be in shoals of 3+ i want to clear things up first. the tempertature is usually between 80-83 degrees F

any advice? what should i know about the albino cory?
thanks 8) B)

First advice, is to go back and get 2 more, at least. Honestly, corys are schooling fish and love to be kept with others of their own kind. Honestly, they don't mind schooling with other corys, but they do like more numbers.

I recommend 6 if you can, because they get much more happy that way. And, of course, the more the merrier.

As for feeding, shrimp pellets, earthworm sticks, and zucchini. Just don't overfeed them. I feed mine once every 3 days. It keeps down waste, and makes them work a bit. I find that if you feed them every day, they get lazy, and won't search for food.

thanks, but i believe that the tank hasnt finished cycling yet. should i go ahead and get the new cories?

I have had the tank going with the betta for about 2 weeks now 8)

Isn't 80-83F a bit too warm for them although I don't have any experience with the species (type, kind, brand, whatever)?

I've heard that mid to low 70's is better.

Let's hear from the heavy weights (knowledge-wise not pound/kg-wise) on this one please.

what about food? I just bought Hikari Algae Wafers. is this good? how do i feed him this?

i have two cory cats in my ten gallon tank along with five platys, 80 degrees is WAY too hot for them i recommend about 70-75, and for food they get water ever flakes falls down when the platys are eating

Those are good but you also need to to feed em protein. I use Nutrafin Max Sinking Complete Food Tablets, the contains minimum 44% crude protein.

the cory is still not eating anything. I put 1/4 of a wafer in but he just ignored it. is this normal? What should I do?

You could try it on bloodworms..? Mine are mad for them!

He may not be eating when you are there and also he may be lonely (no joke). They like company.

I'm told they go nuts for frozen brine shrimp but I haven't seen it (my other fish eat it before it gets anywhere near to the bottom.

Did you lower the temperature?

I'm all out of ideas, good luck.

the only way i can lower the temp is if i isolate him in a 1 g tank. I'll try that. thats the last time I buy animals from Pet O Rama. I also noticed this odd red spot on his back.

or... I may just ask if a better pet store wouldnt mind taking care of him.

corys love to be in trios or small school so buy him 2 friends of the same type and also i have kept cories for years and have never used algea wafers
they just scavenge bits that other fish havent eaten. They will not behave naturally if they relie on food and they will get lazy

Hmmm, not sure if I agree with you. Yes, they will eat the scraps from other fish. But if you really want then them to do well you need to get food to them directly.

But, from blax's last post I deduce there ARE other fish in the tank, because he can't lower the temperature.

Although I still think 80F is still too high if you can get it to at the most the high 70's it would help.

I'm impressed that you would even consider giving him/her up for adoption. Hats off to you.
