I am setting up a new 12 gal hexagonal tank and trying fishless cycling.I have been adding the ammomia for a couple of weeks.This is now showing little or no ammonia present but the nitrites and nitrates are high.I have plants in and I have used a bacteria starter(I know some don't believe in them but I thought I would tryit).Something must be working though to produce the nitrites and nitrates.Do I keep adding ammomia or just leave it now for the nitrites to come down and then do a water change to reduce the nitrates.
