hi this is my verfy first tank, going to add to it this weekend.



4 green tiger barbs
2 leopard leaf fish
1 plec
1 gourami

If you need any advice, your in the right place


Tank looks good for a first, but would look even better with some Mopani wood and maybe a cave for your plecostomus to hide in. You can find some cheap pieces of mopani wood on ebay if your interested.

Maybe as a cheap option you could get a terricotta plant pot and put that in with some stones around the edge? as they do like to have somewhere to hide.

Also live tropical fish plants are great for the aquarium and can be mixed in with the fake ones.

Hi Nelly,
your tank looks great, the gravel really brightens up the tank.
I would just like to comment on your stocking (why do I have to be the bad guy? )
Instead of adding all those fish this weekend, I would suggest adding 1-3 fish every week or so. If you add all the fish at once you'll run into problems and will most likely loose a few fish. (which happens to everybody in the beginning).
What type of pleco were you planning on getting? The common pleco will grow a few feet long, so you'll defently want to avoid those! But there are smaller plecos out there that would be suitable for your tank.
Also, I would only suggest keeping one large gourami in your tank, because adult males can be aggressive to each other. If you can get a pair (male and female) then that would be fine, but I can't tell you how to tell them apart as I have no clue!
Thats great that your adding more barbs, as they can be aggressive fish but when kept in large schools are a lot less aggressive.
How many gallons does your tank hold? It looks like a good size for somebody new to the hobby to start out with.

hi, a so called friend told me you did not have to, since found out he has never kept fish in his life!. tank has now been filled with bottled water brought to the same temp as tank, yes youre right does look a lot better. thanks.View attachment 33565

Why do you use bottled water ?

There is generally no reason you cannot use tapwater with dechlorinator added. A whole lot cheaper.

Hi Nelly!

I like your tank! In the last pic I can see your pleco hiding under the rocks...what a cutie! Say, it would be better for you to buy the dechlorinator as it will be cheaper in the long run and easier for you too. That way, in an emergency, you could do a water change without having to run to the store to buy water.
I'm still trying to figure out what a leopard leaf fish is, I've never seen one before....it sure is a good looking fish!

hi fishowner and thanks this is my first attempt at keeping fish. the leopard leaf fish are beautiful please see pics. just rescued 2 convict cichlids! for nothing.

Nelly, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm afraid convicts are not community fish (or at least not the community you have) and one mated pair alone require 25 gallons.
Please read up about them and remove them before you lose all your current fish

And not sure how much you know about the leopard leaf fish (and forgive me if you already know this) but this fish is a carnivore and can grow up to 8" and will have a go at eating any smaller fish in your tank. Try to feed some frozen foods (bloodworm and other mixes) on a regular basis, but in small quantities.
