looking for your suggestions for my first puffer, to be kept in a tank measuring 36''x12''x18''. which type and things to take in to account. all input much appreciated. :D

right, you can't have anything else in the tank. Be careful what specices you buy and do your research, some species are brackish and others grow huge.

They must be fed meaty foods. Bloodworm, cockle, snails. Snails are especially good as they keep their teeth down.

28 gallons. Well...you hhave a few options there! Red eyes, SAPs, these are just two smaller species. you could also have a few dwarfs in there.

Good choice with choosing a puffer!

The figure eight puffer was my first puffer. I like dwarf puffers too.

thanks for the input. where's the best place to read up on puffers? i want a fw one can anyone advise a particular species to keep? i realise you have to keep them alone. cheers :)

I keep both these species, great fish, not community fish though.

F8 - Brackish - 1.005 +

With a 28g tank, (assuming 28 UK gallons) You could keep several specimans, while young, you just need room for the individuals tanks when older.

thanks all and thanks for the links whoever put them up maneged to see them before they disappeared ;) i'll keep up my research and keep you posted! :D

There's sonething wrong with a site that won't allow you to link to other sites that are helpful! :grr: I thought fish websites were for saving fish, not egos.

south americans are good, but their teeth need trimming fairly regularly. If you don't fancy doing that, I wouldn't get a south american puffer... or breed tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes and tonnes of snails.

they're lovely though... I love mine to bits
