I have a 30g with neon tetra glofish. I’m in Wisconsin and spending my first winter in my new 1925 period home. The forecast shows below zero lows (with a few sub zero highs) for at least a week. I’m not quite sure how well this old house holds heat.

I’m wondering if I should put a secondary heater in just in case my first floor were to drop to the lower 60’s? Or does it work that way? Thanks!

Hi welcome to the forum - a heater will turn it’s self on until the temperature is reached so if you think one will struggle two would help. It would be worth insulating the tank as much as possible too so you could put duvets and blankets over the top or if you have any polystyrene or even insulation boards could help a lot.

Lol, we will be right in that vortex too (in Winthrop Harbor ? neighbor), also with a new house in great need of new windows, from 1950 so not as old but the windows are all original. Good luck with keeping your fish warm, that's great advice from Wills.

Thank you so much for the quick replies! I’m off to Petco for a second heater.
I believe I was a member of this group back in the 2000’s.
