Some of you really helped me and Alex out quite a few months back with marine tank questions etc. It was going to be Alex's baby but he felt a little put off at first (we were only just into tropicals and brackish). It got put off for a few months but when we went to the really good local, my beloved's eyes lit up and yep it is happening!

We have been doing so much research and bought lots of good books and well doing it slowly and inparts but we have started. Even though nanos are much harder to maintain stability, we have gone with a 30 litre wave cubo to start, Alex is pretty meticulous so hopefully it wont be too much of a bad learning curve. This is what we have so far:

30 Litre wave cubo
Marina Digital Heater
Enormous overback filter
Bucket of coral sand, that needs a massive rinse (left over from the puffer days and been outside for couple of months  )
RO Unit, we dont have a car and not too local to LFS's so invested in this to ensure the water will never be compromised due to this.

To get in the upcoming months once recovered from christmas:
50w Heater
Refractometer
Marine Salt
Live Rock
Light Unit and those special bulbs
Powerhead

We are going with the method of cycling the live rock (think it is the Berlin method). Alex is the method man and I am the camera/logger keeper .

So watch this space, it is going to be slow progression but a sturdy one :good:

I love the planning and setting up of a new tank, so will be following this and enjoying every minute :good:

Couple of points: ditch the coral sand and buy new aragonite - it doesn't cost the earth and will ensure there are no nasty surprises waiting for you!

Just remember that the live rock is the 'heart and lungs' of your tank so along with 20% weekly water changes will keep your tank filtered, so, next question, what is the 'enormous back filter' for?

ps don't forget the photos :good:

Heres a link Amy for some Sand. I brought this one . Hopfully 2 bags will be enough for my tank.

Hey guys, thanks for that. Seffie, is that nasty surprises because it has been sat outside for ages or nasty something about coral sand I do not know yet?  Ah think the filter is for circulating (we are following someones similar setup though Alex has the details!) Im great at the whole knowing bit  Thanks for the link betta_246! Having the camera charging today for an excellent photo of a shiny empty tank :good:

 No, nasty surprises like loads of phosphate, copper build up etc, just dump it, its not worth the risk
