for those of us that have been keeping fish for a while we have no doubt experienced death of our fish, but my question is does anyone have one of their first fish that they ever bought?

I have been keeping fish for two years and have a pictus cat that i bought with my first ever tank.

I've lost a few, but I still have my first fish - a shoal of 6 black widow tetras. My second fish were two blue panchax, the male killed his mate, but I still have him.

Those tetras have been through hell - I botched the end of my fishless cycle, so they were swimming in ammonia before I realized I'd screwed up. They've had ich twice, and four of them got columnaris about six months ago.

My first fish was purchased more then 10 years ago. It might have still been alive today if it wasn't for the bowl it was placed in :/

I can't remember the /absolute/ first fish I got, because that was prolly when I was a little kid. I first started 'serious' fishing keeping like, a 2 1/2 years and got 3 albino cory cats, 6 neon tetras and a honey gourami. I have ne tetra left, lol. I lost my precious honey gourami a couple weeks ago, from dropsy ;___;

First fish I ever bought? Mmm.. Well I will count the first fish I bought when I started keeping them again. No I don't. It was a common pleco. I've had it around 3-4 years but last month it got stuck in something and passed. I wasn't home to save it :(
I buried him and kept the skull.

nope the very first ones are long gone because I did a fish-in cycle as I didn't know any better

I had a shoal of neons which I got within the first few months of fishkeeping, the last ones only died off maybe 6 months ago, not bad considering they were around 5/6 :good:

one of my first fish i got was my featherfin catfish, i was cluless back then as to how big will it grow etc etc, it was less than an inch when i got him, now a good 6+ years later he is about 7inches and is in his 5th tank due to his growth! oh, how we learn

still got my black skirt tetras what are nearly 2 year old now also have 2 of the 5 honey gouramis i bought around the same time

Well, I was thinking 'no fair' for most of us, but if we can use the first since we got back into it after (sniff) giving away our fish and tanks (sob) when moving out of town...
Yes, I've got a Central Mud Minnow dug out of a friend's countryside drying overflow ditch several years ago, (which got the whole thing started again,) and I have one of the two otos which were the first fish I actually bought after that.
And they'll have to live forever...

Woohoo I can answer this one... I got two goldfish in a bowl for my 4th birthday (17 years ago!), which I put in our pond when I was about 10. Cannot believe they lived without a filter etc but mum must have been more on top of it than I realised! Anyway...'bubble' is still swimming around the pond today, though very very white and frail. 'Squeak' got lost a few years back :(

one of my first fish was a hill stream loach because my first tank was a cold water set up and i wanted something pleco like. that was the closest thing so i bought a few of them. only one has survived the lack of oxygen but it has thrived! it even grown a little :hyper: lol

ive got a goldfish called diana (bought when she was alive) and shes still going but now spends summers in the pond dodi her friend died within weeks of him been bought though
scot :good:

i dont have my first fish cos i was only 4 and they were kept in the little bowls by my mum
now i think back to it and think how cruel it was to have 2 fish in a little bowl

However when my husband and i started seeing each other in 1995 he had a extra large custon made corner fishtank dont know the size in ltrs but it took up a hell of a lot of the room and was 24" deep and 60" accross the front - it was beautiful
i had a black moor called sooty in there that we got the same as soon as the tank was cycled and he was about 2cms in length .

When we got married 2002 his mum wanted the tank gone and we couldnt take it with us so all the fish that were in there had to go into grandads pond - i was sad to see sooty go

But i am pleased to say when he is still alive and kicking and he is beautiful and huge and grandad has said that he knows he breeds cos he is kept with comets , shubunkins , a few more fancys (from the large tank) and koi carp and grandad has seen some of the moor characteristics in lots of the babies .

Now my son and daughters first fish (blackmoor , shubunkin , 3 fancy fantails) have gone into grandads pond so hopefully they will do aswell .

Thanks Sarah xx
