Hello

Finally, today was the day when I woke up and did my final check on the water and everything was fine

Went to the LFS today and got my first batch of fish - don't know what happened but I bought the following

Tank size 250ltrs...

6 x Cardinal Tetras - opted for these instead of neons
6 x X-Ray Tetras - impulse buy
6 x Black Neon Tetras
6 x Glowlight Tetras - beautiful little fish
2 x Pearl Gourami - Male and female - stunning looking fish :)

All the fish are settling in well and the tetras are swimming together - did I buy too many at one time?

Looking for suggestions on other fish that will be suitable?
Cheers
Jack

That is a fair amount of fish to add all at once. Stay on top of your water changes and monitor your levels.

And of course - give us pictures!

Thought that myself too but got carried away in LFS but they are all very small and I'll keep on top of the water stats too
Thanks
Jack

More than likely you bought to many at one time. I hope that this was after a fishless cycle, if not, you are in store for MULTIPLE MASSIVE water changes DAILY. Even so, some fish are still sensitive with new set-ups, even fully cycled ones. They are better off in tanks established for 6 months. Be ready for water changes at a moment's notice. Test daily for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. If ammonia or nitrite spike even the slightest bit, do a large water change. WHen nitrates rise 40ppm above your tap water, do a partial water change.

Enjoy your new fish. You made some lovely choices.

To help mature it, I'd suggest some easy live plants... anubias, java fern, moss, anacharis, amazon swords, etc. Nothing fussy, just something that brings its own biology with it.

Tank is fully cycled - water stats are good and will keep on top of the water stats

Thanks - I've added Anubias, Amazon swords and a few other plants - great to see them in the tank - they are all doing fine sofar

Cheers

BTW, we all love pictures. ;-)

Thanks - going to take some photos tomorrow and will post some here

Cheers
Jack :)

in a tank that size after a fishless cycle id say you only slightly over did it really, some species are very sensitive so watch for those, neon tetras are one and many people chuck 15 in a new tank and wake up to little or none still alive.

like advised just check the water every 24 hours, and then youll know if you need to react!
If you did fishless cycle i suppose it all depends on to what PPM you cycled at, because if you did it at 5ppm you could be fine, if you did at 2....your in trouble lol

Thanks for the advice - water stats are fine and all the fish made it through the first night - had been cycling for 4 weeks with roughly 4ppm ammonia - tank cycled after 3 weeks but had been checking water all week to check it was alright

Fish look healthy and happy so far - fingers crossed and lesson learned

Cheers
Jack

Don't forget, you promised pictures.

26 fish for one day of stocking? You should only add like 4-6 fish a week!!! I hope those tetras survive especially those sensitive cardinals.

He did a fishless cycle with 4ppm ammonia, so in theory he could get most of his proposed stocking at once. Though I do agree about the cardinals in a newly cycled tank.

Fish are all doing fine and enjoying their new home - adding more plants soon

Photos getting loaded to the photo section ;)
