First female and a couple other questions.....

I got my first female today. I got her all set up in a 1 gallon with a fake plant (tempoary untill the real ones start to grow.) After I got her acclimated and in the tank and all that other good stuff, I set her next to one of my males. He was going nuts! Flaring at her, and flitting all over the tank. She saw him, I know she did cause she was following him a little. She didn't flare or anything. Do females flare?Maybe she just needs to get adjusted to her new home before any of that happens. Oh, I fed her today with Hikari betta bio-gold, but she kept spitting it out like it was too hard. Anyone know of a softer pellet that she would be able to handle? I'm planning on making a trip to the lfs (I'm guessing that this means local fish store?) and see if they have frozen blood worms or frozen brine shrimp. I need to get a couple different filters too. I'm thinking the little corner filter (a couple more Aqua System Duetto 50's like I have in my 1.5G) Has anyone tried growing the "sea monkeys" to feed their bettas? If you have how did it work out for you?
