Would appreciate some help. I have my first case of columnarius - at least I think that's it. It seems to be very fast moving. It's a puzzle as this fish has been on the same schedule for the past year as far as cleaning, etc. His tank mate is fine. I've since put both in separate isolation tanks and both will be treated with medicines.

The question is... which is the best medicine. I had them on ampicillex but there hasn't been any improvement and I've seen him get a bit worse. I cleaned the tanks again this morning and will start to use maracyn and maracyn two.

Two questions... what is the best medicine for this... I doubt he'll make it even though he's currently bouncing off the sides of the tank. Extremely active and eating good.

After this, what is the best method for cleaning a small mini bow?

I can't offer much advice on med's but I can offer help in sterilization.

Make a clorox mixture of 1 part clorox to 4 parts water. Let the mixture sit in teh tank overnight, the wash it out real good (til *you* can't smell the clorox anymore), then sit it outside in the sun for a whole day (at least 8 hours). The heat and sun will evaporate the clorox.

My little Sakana is currently recovering very nicely from columnaris with Maracyn.

I read an article that said that sudden rises in water temperature can cause columnaris. Makes perfect sense for my fish, because I just moved from my air-conditioned house where he had to have a tank heater to an un-air-conditioned dorm where the water has been holding at about 84 or higher. :p

Maracyn and Maracyn II are your best bet, I think. Also, columnaris thrives in stagnant water, so adding a bubble stone if there isn't one already should help
