Calgary Alberta,
came with the used tank I bought, no instructions,not setup yet, it's my first canister filter, and i would like some tips

like should i clean it out out before i set it up? it was being used a few days ago

and anything else i should no how often do i replace the filter media?

Thanks

most of the time you can just rinse out the old media.i think they have a manual on there site, if not email them and see if you can get one sent to you.
if not i'm sure someone can send you a copy of one

You can get the manual for the 304 here - it is a PDF which you can download and then print off. Covers all of the Fluval x04 range. It is the same as the manual which comes with them.

if you bought from someone else you should change the media.clean the canister with hot water (no soap!!) and add the new media on the motor take out the propeller in the middle and see if its gooey clean it too and let it dry before u put it back in. i used to have a 403 and its a good filter.. good luck hope i helped

thanks i found the manual

i'm also wondering if adding aa small hang on the back filter, for like a aquaclear 200 or three hundred or a biowheel around that price would it help at all make any difference? I know the 403 will cover it but will a extra filter help noticeably

Edit->thanks silver

forgot to mention that it is a 90 gallon i thought i had mentioned that

I personally wouldn't spend the money on another filter. The 403 will do an excellent job if it is anything - if not better than - like my 304!!!
