Hi
Am getting my first betta tomorrow.Ive read up and been advised here on tank/heat etc
However could anyone tell me their weekly feeding routine for their bettas?
I know there are pellets /bloodworms etc but how much and how often are they fed/
I asked my lfs owner and he said they are just fed flakes?Mind you he doesnt keep them but Im beginning to think he dosent know as much about fish as I thought he did!
Thanks

Congrats on your new betta! I think you'll find people feed a wide variety of foods. Personally I mostly use HBH Betta Bites, which are micropellets, simply because my first betta refused to eat anything else. The container I bought for him is still well over three quarters full, so in the interests of economy that's mostly what I use, combined with the odd treat of a bloodworm or two. You'll find a few bettas will eat betta flake food, but most of mine have only mouthed them and spit them back out. I suspect they didn't enjoy having to fit something that big into their mouths!

I feed 4 micropellets per betta a day, and every now and then I'll skip a day, or halve the serving, because in the chance I have to go away for a weekend I want him to be able to last without having to depend on some well-meaning friend of mine who will chronically overfeed him (it's happened before; poor little guy floated on the top for two days before his swim bladder finally went back to normal)

I use Hikari brand Betta Bio-Gold pellets for most of my bettas and they love it. They get 5 pellets each per day, except for once or twice a week then they get a pinch of bloodworms or a bit of pea instead. For the bettas whose mouths are too small for Hikari pellets, I feed Marineland brand Bio-Blend betta pellets because they're the only smaller-sized betta pellets my LFS carries. They get about 7 of those each :)

Thanks for the advice---got him this morning and I have the feeling hes going to be the first of many

Congrats on the new betta! :) LOL yes, they are addictive!

I find that variety makes my bettas happier: in the morning, I feed HBH Betta Bites. Pearl has 3 and Jerry has 4. Then in the evening, Jerry has 2 Pro's Choice Betta Pellets and Pearl has 1.

Every other day I replace the evening feedings of Pro's Choice with Nutrafin Freeze Dried Grubworm Pellets..... yummy...

One day a week, at random, I fast them both and sometimes I throw a bit of shelled pea in to prevent constipation.

When feeding, remember that a bettas stomach is the size of one of his/her eyes. ;)
