i would love a betta

can i put it with any of the following:

fancy guppies
dwarf gourami
cardinal tetra

i have an EMPTY 48litre/ 12 gallon tank

thanks

guppys and tetras are fin nippers so no.

Gourami's depend on the personality. Sometimes they are fine other times they will try to attack each other.

If you can get a LARGE (1 gal plus) breeding net or trap you can keep it with all of those fish (in same tank) just separated from them.

Bettas will attack fancy guppies, they see the long flowing fins and think they are another betta. Guppies rarely survive these attacks - they aren't built to survive a vicious fight with a fish twice their size. Tetras can be fin nippers but if they are kept in large shoals may leave the betta alone. Female guppies are hell, they bite fins like nothing I've ever seen. Not sure on gouramis as I've never kept them but you might be safe as they are closely related to bettas.

Aww, I'd say no to all

Cory that stay small (I have lilac spot and pigmies) 'Ottos and ADF. Shrimps I believe are ok too

i don't know i just tried shrimp with my betta. i had to pull them out because they were trying to munch on bettas tail. then betta would turn around and nip at the shrimp. i ended up taking the shrimp back.

my guppys and platys cant even hang with my female bettas, well the big blue girl they leave alone, but all the others they pick on, I would go with a nice group of some type of cory, lovely little fish that get along good with bettas.

As far as I know

No
No
Maybe, but best not

Pygmy corydoras seem a good choice, and depending on the betta's personality, you might get some nerite snails, or ember tetra?
