Pair of crowntails. An Opaque male and a Royal Blue female. They have been side by side for ten days or so now, and the girl is bloated with eggs. The male crowntail built a bubble nest and the two seem to have been getting along in the separate tanks...

But when I put the two in the spawning tank, the male was very timid. He ignored the ladu crown. The lady crown would come over to him and nudge him a bit, like saying "Hey, I am here"....

Than he would move away. Was like that for two hours. I figure there was no danger so I am giving them privacy and will leave them in for a day...

oooh tense times

I've not done this properly so don't know how they are supposed to react and how long its supposed to take till they embrace. Mine were in the same tank for most of the day but I've no idea how long the female had actually been in with the male having jumped out of the breeding trap but they had done and dusted in the space of 9 hours

If they are ok in eachothers company then I guess its ok to leave them to get on with it, just keep checking every now and again that they are ok and not killing eachother

Good luck!

good luck man, its takein me many trys and im still working on it. iv gotten up to the embraceing part, and i think she droped eggs but none hatched.. -_- yours seems to be going smooth thogh

My opinion is if they reacted that way, he will not spawn currently. They basically get bored with one another after a while. They need to be teased so they are hopping horny when they get there. I would keep them next to each other, but card them so they can't see one another. Then, I normally uncard them 2x a day for about 30 minutes. You can also add another male next to him and he will get more aggresive because he has competition for the lady. 2 days before I spawn I tease them more often, but for only like 5 minutes. Then the day I put the pair in the tank, they don't see each other at all, until in the tank. After dinner, the male gets placed in the tank. I normally leave him in there atleast 15 minutes to swim around and get comfy. Add the female and place her in a globe, or whatever you are using. They should color up and start flaring. You can release her whenever you see signs from both that they are willing. Some males will not build a nest until they are embracing and blowing bubbles up, and some will not spawn until they have built a bubble castle. They normally spawn in the first 48 hours to my experience. Go ahead and pull the pair, wait another week or two, then try again.

Thanks for the tips. Will see how they are doing now :)
