Hi guys, the other day I got two firemouths, 1 is deffinately a male but the other one.. well sometimes its neck is red sometimes it isnt. anyway the one that might be a female began bullying the male and so i moved the male to my ram tank. the tank i was keeping them in was tiny but i need a sollution for the mean time
Please, Im very desperate to find a sollution.

What size is the tank you were trying to put them into and what sort of décor does it have?

I will admit it is very small, (46x30x23) cm w h b, it has three plants ( the firemouths are juvinials) 2 pieces of bogwood. i might be able to post a pic

Here are pics 1st tank is the tank with the bulllied firemouth

how do you post images

At the bottom of the "full editor", there is a box you can use to upload photos, but the reason why the firemouths are fighting is clear: the tank is by far too small for them. You will need to get a much bigger tank immediately, or take them back to the shop, as it is cruel to keep them in one which is *that* small (unless the fish are under 1" in length and it is a temporary measure, only for a few days).

I recommend one which is at least 120*30*30 cm, but bigger is always better.

Lol it is A: only temporary as im getting a 300 l and B: they are under 1"_ they are juvi's

I think you'll just have to keep them separated until the new tank. If the 300 litre is a decent length, can you get 3m 3f and let them pair up, then take the others back to the LFS?

well iv just established I have a m and a f but I'm not too sure as when there 2gether they flare up

Of course they would, one doesn't have anywhere to get away from another!

only prob is.. now the firemouth is getting very aggressive and i think the rams are gonna lay eggs very very soon

so u think its a male and a female
No… I think they will try to kill each other until they have a much larger tank.

Rams and firemouths… please find the firemouth somewhere else to go, divide the spare tank if you have to.

I do have one question: why did you buy the firemouths, which are known to be very aggressive, before you had a tank for them?

I didnt actually want to :( but my dad was arguing they wud go well with bolivrams ( I knew they wudnt) we argued untill my dad just bought them then they attacked the bolivs and each other
