Hello all, I purchased a good size (2.5") Firemouth Cichlid today for my tank and now he's just sitting on the bottom. Is he in shock from the transfer? I floated him in the bag for a good 20 min or more. The tank is highly planted and not rock based, is he just hiding. The tank he is in currently has a juvenile convict (1.5") a group of 4 panda corys and 6 serpae tetras. Please tell me he'll snap out of it or suggest what I might do differently. I tried offering food to see if he'd come out but he didn't. He's only been in tank for an hour but I've never had a fish just sit at the bottom after putting them in tank. HELP!

How long has the tank been set up for?
Have you tested the tank water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH?
If yes, what are the results in numbers?

If the aquarium is cycled (developed the good filter bacteria), then it is probably stress from the move. If the tank has not cycled, then it could be a water quality issue.
The best treatment for a water quality issue is a water change but test the water first.

You can try turning the tank light off for today and that can help fish recover a little faster.

All cichlids have the habit of sulking, just hope he gets over it.
He's out and not hiding but still sulking at the bottom. These cichlids and their moods, I tell ya. Tank is good and been up and running for quite some time, do 20% water changes weekly and has two filters (as I am using it for new aquarium cycling) so 4x what is needed for tank. He had some interest in eating this morning but didn't eat much. I'll give him another 24 hours and watch. Thank you
