i think my firefish has a split in its tail, probally havent noticed as been hiding (will try get better look later to see if it does have split in tail.
my guess is it came like this as it was with lots of damsels.
so it should grow back on its own, with waterchanges?

Yes it will grow back within a week or so, provided you have clean water and regular feeding.
