So, I have a large firebelly newt. Around 6 inches, larger than normal. Im pretty sure its male, cause he has a large cloaca. But Im trying to define: is he a chinese or japanese? I read on articles and it said that Chinese's have blotches of red, and their smooth, like mine. But, however, they're usually small. Articles also say that Japaneses have more of a pointy tail, like mine, but it doesnt have blotches, or rough skin. Is it possible that a Chinese and japanese breeded to make a type like mine? I want to breed my FBN, but I dont know what type it is.

I also feed him (possible her) mushy bloodworms, ProBalance pellets, and newt and salamander bites.

cant seen em inter breading as they live in different environments. Japanese firebellys, are semi aquatic. they need land to crawl out on to. they are also temperate. Chinese Firebellys are totally aquatic and tropical. though a temp of 70f will do both fine.

yours sounds like a Japanese firebelly (there are several subs so variationwill be common.)

my FBN is 100% aquatic. i know its not a paddletail newt cause its end of tail is smaller than the base of the tail.
