I have a hang-on back filter with a very low output system that hangs into the tank and my fire eel keeps swimming upstream into the filter. It keeps getting cuts and scrapes from the filter media and I keep having to get him out with a net. I'm currently treating the tank with an antiseptic and anti-bacterial treatment and the eel should be ok but I'm not sure how to prevent my eel from swimming up the output of my filter. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Use a different type of power filter (external canister) or put some netting/ screen across the outlet to stop the eel going into the filter.

If you do get a different filter, move the filter media/ material from the old HOB filter into the new filter so you don't lose the good bacteria.
