hi,

i have recently bought myself a second fire eel, this one is bigger tha my first, about 12". I have just read on the internet that they are good escape artists, my tank is a juwel Vision 180 which has a cover, im now worried that he will be able to lift up the cover and get out??

is this the case or am i worrying too much????

put something on the cover like a paper weight (just to ease your mind) there much more likely to get into external filter systoms and live in them for days before youve noticed that there in there, make shure that the tank is tightly fited and that any holes for the filter or heater are snug, but you probably did that already, no joke though there realy good escapers, if theres a way they will find it fire eels are realy colorfull and smart = )

putting a paper weight on it wouldnt put my mind at ease i use duck tape to tape it down,my fire eel is 20" long tho and very strong

lol ok duck an arowanda couldnt break duck tape with a jump, beilive me your safe lol, just makes sure that every little hole is coverd like the one around your filer they can easy jump threw the smallest holes and dont be surpized if you find him in the filter every once in a wile *(if you put a few extra sponges in your filter you can stop this from happening by closeing off the eneterance its very effective but it also slows down the flow seepd)
