Welp, my orange CT has had finrot for about 2 weeks now. I've been doing 5 day dosages of bettamax, and it isn't working. Is there anything I could get to clear this finrot up? Thanks.

Hm. You could do a 25-50% water change and attempt another anti-fungal medication. However, if it is a bacterial infection, then the medicine used would target these critters.

Invader Zim--"Critters burn good" <---- I love that show!

my amle has had fin rot before to im not sure why bettamax isn't takeing care of it, try melfix, its a stronger version. all you can do it provide clean water, meds and stand back and hope he makes it, melafix is my main treatment for almost everything. you ahve salt in there to right?

I just helped a friend cure her betta and here is what we did.
1. 15 minutes in a salt bath ... 1tsp in 1 gallon dechlor water
2. did a 10 fold dilution of melafix then added .5 mL of this solution to the betta's 1 gal bowl.
3. added a sprinkle of aquarium salt to bowl water
4. changed 100% water and added salt and melafix dilution daily for 7 days.

I though this fish was going to be dead in day when we started this treatment but he is happy as can be now. I also convinced my friend to upgrade to a filtered 2.5 gallon in the process :D she had major water quality issues. This worked for me but I'm sooo not the expert here.

No..Melafix is not a stronger version of Bettamax. Bettamax is a med . Bettafix is the weaker solution of Melafix. Neosulfex was the best I could find for finrot, but I can't find it anymore. Tetracycline is good for it too. Try a salt bath. Either continue the bettamax, or try tetracycline, or another med for finrot.

I used Maracyn-two and cured my betta with finrot after one treatment.

As taken from Dr Fostersmith
With B-complex vitamins. A broad-spectrum antibiotic for internal or external gram negative bacterial infections. Effective treatment of fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, dropsy, bleeding or red streaks, secondary and internal infections. Effective even when fish won't eat. Active ingredients: Minocycline. For freshwater, use 2 tablets per 10 gallons first day and 1 tablet per 10 gallons thereafter. For saltwater, use 1 tablet per 10 gallons first day and 1 tablet per 20 gallons thereafter.

I love Macaryn II, best stuff in the world :flex: I don't recommend it lightly, but two weeks is no good. Try that with salt and daily water changes :)

I even had a hell of a time with the maracyn-two since I wasn't treating a 10 gallon. I had to break it up to work for a 1 gallon hospital tank. Make sure you use the correct dosage or you risk overdosing your fish! It should not be given to fish without constant supervision - much like a child with medication, do constant check ups.

I hear ya there...what I do is cut half a tablet and mix five gallons, that way you know you have the dosage right and it's ready for the insane amount of water changes you're doing on finrot fish. If you cut it in quarters that would probably be even better, help ensure it keeps it's potency

I just treated my betta for fin-rot last week. I did salt baths 3 x a day for 3 days (1/2 tsp salt in a cup of water taken from the fish bowl) and it cured him. This was a relatively slow moving infection, he didn't end up loosing too much of his fin. He's all betta now :p
