yeah so ive been waiting almost 2 weeks to get my rena smart heater, and low and behold, as soon as i plug it in, i see the light is flashing quickly to indicate the water is too hot, which it isnt. and i notice my temps dropping. so back goes in the old heater, dang it! i just want something reliable and decent.

we should really have a "Equipment Reviews" section of the forum, we seem to have everything else!

Shame mate. Was it second hand or new? I would return it or contact Rena about it and see what they say... I have a 50w and a 100w Rena Basic and they're pretty decent. :)

Definately second a review section, but would have to be careful that there wasn't threads that just slagged products off.

I had the smaller Rena smart heater and the water always felt cold so was never sure. Been reading on a few other forums about them failing. . . .

Brand new. I got a quick reply back from Rena. Hopefully they will take the ebay receipt as a proof of purchase

I've had two smart heaters do that. One was replaced under warranty and the replacement I still have as backup. They both died about 8-12 months of use. The 2nd one I left in a bag of rice for like a month and it seems to be working again. I replaced it with a Sera heater that has a 5 year warranty. I mainly went with the smart heaters because I needed something that didn't burn my eels.

Have you tried Eheim Jager? They have been very accurate for me and I'm very pleased with the result so far.

yep, sad but true. avoid rena smart heaters. go for something like the hydor in-line heater (coz they work).

I've just bought a Hydor heater, i love it, no more equipment in the tank, decent warm water instead of staying at 22C when the thermo is set at 30!!

Definately worth £35 and i like the way it looks, although the click when it turns on/off can get a bit annoying, i dont mind it but my OH does especially because everything is in the bedroom so it has to be quiet or he cant sleep!

i seem to have a hard time finding hydors, or they are very expensive!

it shouldn't be. charterhouses do em. but, you will have to find the tubing internal) diameter. thing is stepping down, or up don't work too well. so 200w has a diamiter of 12mm and the 300 is 16mm. that said some sellers have the 200 in 16mm size, but they show no stock. avoid fleabay though. they are selling for, up to, £20 more than new?????????????????????????????????????????????

I have the 200W with 12mm tubing, but im sure its easy enough to sort out if you have 16mm tubing :)

well i do have to say, RENA's customer service just blew me away. knock on the door just now, and bam new heater on my doorstep. i didnt even have to send the old one back to them. i had already sent the broken one back to the ebay supplier, so yay free heater. very glad i wrote them and email and sent them the copy of the receipt. thats awesome.
