Hello folks,

Well finally after a year or two of not having a fish tank I am getting another. I used to have various tanks my last one was a 300 litre mbuna tank which I didn’t really have the space for so unfortunately had to get rid of it. I wasn't really planning on another tank so soon but had started to think about it lately and then a good sized 100 litre tank came up for free and I thought "I am gonna have that" lol.

So now I got to decide what to put in it. ITs a 3ft by 1ft and comes with some fish, two filters, heater, etc... and decor but looks prety naff. Its got manky gravel so I'll change that to sand and get some bog wood and plants for it. The filters are internal ones, look like fluval 3’s, so I would possibly ditch them and use an external one.

I was thinking about a cool amazonian type of tank, fill it with loads of little fish and maybe one or two biggish ones if possible, I am a little out of practice so I thought that some of you nice peoples could give me a few tips on which fish go well together.

I was thinking of getting 10-12 neons, 5 or so panda cory’s (or peppered ones), maybe a small BN plec or two. Is that about my limit or could I get some more with better filtration?

Oh any other ideas are welcome too

cheers chish

Bump tiddly bump bump bump bump

Does no one have an opinion?

I thought of maybe binning all of that and getting a puffer or two if I have space

does anyone have good ideas of a nice setup for an amazonian style aquarium. Like I said I am better with mbuna cichlids, but since the tank isn’t big enough I am looking for something different.

i think you should be OK with that stocking, and have room for a pair of bigger chaps. Especially if you over-filter it.

Maybe a pair of Rams?

Personally i wouldn't go with tetra's, becuase i always think they're a bit... common (obviously depending on species)
Maybe get some killifish or swordtails? i agree on a shoal of 10-12

Hi Timmy,

Swordtails are quite nice they could be a good choice also I like the idea of Rams, Bolivian ones??

I was maybe thinking of rummy nose tetras too I quite like them, I spose neons are quite common.

Either Bolivian or German Blue's. But there are lots out there that look stunning - its just a case of finding them!
RN tetra are one of the nicer ones. I have got some Buenos Aires Tetra, but they might be too big.

Tetras being common does mean that you can easily find them though. It just winds me up when you go to a LFS you havent been to before, and they have the same old tanks full of neons...

Yip I know what you mean, same old guff just a different shop. There are some good ones around me though so I might get lucky.

I picked up the tank last night and sorted it all out. The fish that came with it, as far as I can tell, were:

1 white skirt Tetra

1 Otto

1 small algae eater

2 rainbow fish

1 leopard danio

1 Siamese fighting fish (poor thing has been nipped to hell by all the other fish)

and 2 other small fish I havent identified yet.

I dont really want any of them except maybe the rainbow fish, not sure how big they get though, going to have a look online about them. So I might take the rest into my lfs and see if they will take them.
