We had to seperate our betta (Nam Pla, thai for Fish Sauce! ) from our danios because they were getting nippy with one another. However we also noticed that that Nam Pla had a chunk of his own tail in his mouth. Is that normal? Anyway, that was a couple of weeks ago and instead of Nam Pla's tail healing it seems to be slowly getting worse so now I'm thinking he's got fin rot (I think in the last few weeks he's lost maybe 1/3 of his tail or thereabouts?). I understand fin rot is fixable but how long can you leave it before it's too late? His tail will heal right? I dunno, We've never had fish problems before!

Some bettas tend to chew on their own fins, I have a few who think it's just great myself. However, it can lead to fin rot.

Isolate him in his own tank (not sure if you just divided or removed him) add aquarium salt and your choice of meds (bettafix, melafix, neosulfex, bettamax) and raise the temp to speed the cycle. Above all make sure his water is extremely clean
