Fin Rot

I have been reading about fin rot because I see it had just begun on my poor boy. I am treating it, but eI keep reading to add aquarium salt, too. What is the dosage? I have the salt, but I don't want to overdose him. Thank you!

He is alone in a 5 gallon tank. I think he will be okay; he is swimming around plenty and eating. I just feel bad because his water quality was obviously in substandard water.

Thanks a lot for the salt info. By the way, does Melafix work well for finrot?

Yes it does but only use half the dosage. Some people claim Melafix can damage the labyrinth organ of the Betta, which it uses to breath. I treated a male for it several months ago and he did fine, it stopped the fin rot and he healed up nicely.
