I noticed that one of my neon tetras tail fin had fin rot and its gills were very red. It began to become very lethargic and not move, I thought it was going to die. I did a H20 change and within a few days it was swimming around again and I saw the rot lessen and now the rot is all gone and the tail is growing back. Has anyone come across this before? I thought that fin rot had to be treated to get rid of it. Not for it to heal one its own??

PS Oh and hes the only fish now with a name in the tank hes called "rotty" :shifty:

It's possible for it to heal on its own, esp if it's not advanced and caught in time. It's also possible it wasn't fin rot at all, your tetra could have been fighting with another fish, one of my male mollies had a rip in his tail fin, the next day it had healed up but he's been keeping himself to himself since.

Sounds like the tetra got into an arguement with another fish and the two or more may have been fin nipping. It could have been that your tetra was just very exhausted from arguing with the other fish. Sounds like he should be fine though.
