Hi one of my males has fin rot, I was wondering if it is ok to start treating with a salt bath until I can get some fin rot treatment at the weekend?

It really depends how bad he has it. . .

If it's a mild case - then ya wait to the weekend, but I've seen fin rot take a betta over night

It's your call.

Might see if I can persuade my partner to take me back to LFS again! I dont want to risk losing him to fin rot even though it doesnt look that bad at the moment just slightly frayed fins! Thanks for replying so quickly! I really dont get why problems all seem to happen all at once first my female with dodgy lip now this!

Yeh my friend had a betta w/ fin rot that got worse over night (not meaning to scare you) but she had to cut his fins to stop it. :S

But I didn't want to worry you even more. (even though I did)

If you can't make it to the lfs - do 100% water changes and add the salt. I think if it's a mild case then you can wait til the weekend. But if it's major then I would head to the lfs.

 Good luck!

perfect suggestion....

Didnt manage to make it to LFS, my partner refused to go as he is sick of going with me! Have done the 100% water change and added more salt this morning! Luckily its stayed about the same and he seems fine in himself!

 dont fancy cutting his fins back, I dont think I have the will power to do that!

Hmmm love the way you go I didnt want to worry you BUT........ such a nice way to put it lol! I hope he doesnt die from this!

feed your Betta with high protein foods and keep the water crystal clear..... sun bathe him and flare him from time to time.

Fin rot can almost always be cleared without medications by daily water changes, salt, good nutrition, and slighty elevated water temperature. It can actually be damaging to a betta's long-term health to be continually placed on anti-biotics. So, if he does well just with salt and frequent water changes, I wouldn't bother buying anything. Good luck~

Thanks, got a new problem now too he's very bloated I think he might be constipated I've been not feeding him the last few days and tried to give him a pea but he wouldnt entertain it! I'm going to get a container to isolate him (he's in with plecs) and it should be easier to keep a smaller container cleaner too! THe poor guy!
