I have a male fighter which contracted mouth rot then fin rot, he has now been segragated into a bio orb but fin rot has progressed and reached his body, am I correct in thinking this is now a fatal situation ? If he is doomed I would rather put him out of his misery now.

Also in my main tank filter section there appears to be tiny white dots (about half the size of a grain of sand) indeed they are so small I would have taken them to be specks of food detrius had they not started leaping about 2 inches across the surface, like a flea.

Any ideas anyone ?

I am sad to say that once fin rot reaches the body, it is
(most of the time) too late. If you do want to euthinise your
betta then use the clove oil method.

From the description of the dots in you tank they do sound like daphnia and will be harmless to your fish, in fact they are food for 99.9% of tropical fish. Enjoy the freebie :D

:) The leaping bugs are a form of aquatic springtail....they probably came in on live food or plants...perfectly harmless and they will either be eaten or just die....as they are so minute they won't bother the water chemistry when they do die
