I have just come home to find that one of my black neon tetras cannot swim properly. He is pointing downwards constantly. I've separated him from his tank mates and noticed that most of his tail is missing... He is in a community tank with a male betta, about a dozen tetras (neons and black neons) and a pleco who is going soon.

Will his tail grow back? If I put him back in the tank will he die?

Also he only has colour in half is body, I am assuming that this is because he is pointing downwards so all the blood has drained downwards.

Help!

if he was a healthy fish before then possable but i sounds more like fin rot. are the outher fish losing there tales ? if so i could be fin rot. have a close look at the outhers and see if they have a white end to there tales?

ps i think a tetra is to quick for the male betta to catch.

Yes It Will Grow Back.
What You Need To Do is:
put him in a seperate tank for QT (quarantine). REMEMBER!! this tank MUST be cycled
also this tank is need to have a fish medication called melafix in it to prevent fin rot and help his recovery
also i've found that the addition of freshwater aquarium salt can help speed his recovery from a few weeks to a few days
