My 40 gallon (well etsablished with great water parameters but unexplainably cloudy) has a pengiun 330 with 2 biowheels, 2 spots for those little blue bags with the actiavted carbon in them and then 2 media baskets behind that.

All I have been using for several months are the 2 biowheels (of course) and then the two little blue bags which I change every few weeks. Then, someone in the forum told me to put activated carbon in the 2 media baskets in my filter (which orinally had nothing in them). Today, I went and bought some, put the carbon in my media baskets and rinsed them off until all the dust was gone. Then I put them in my filter box.

My question is, how long does it take for the carbon to get rid of all the cloudiness?

Is carbon the best thing to use (I heard something about someone using sponges...)?

When my water gets cloudy i have this de-clouder liquid thing. It clears the water rite up. Look for it at your lfs.

There is nothing wrong with that stuff if used as directed. It never harmed my fish when ever I used it.

Try accu clear, seems to be the best. However, I would recommend you alleviate all possibilities before adding chemicals.

But I do keep the accu clear on hand

Sorry to post again! But from what I understand about carbon, is that it takes out medications, and chemicals and other impurities, dont know what it will do for your cloudiness.

Chemicals that make the tank clear again after being cloudy, such as Accu-clear, only for work for a day or two and the tank gets cloudy again...Thanmks though.
