I'm up for some new filters on my 35gallon as my 2 cheapo ebay hang ons are noisy as all hell now and annoy the crap outta me, they've lasted over 2 years now and only costed me $16AUS each so pretty good I think.

So yeah was thinking of going hang ons again but they don't really fit my tank as there is a ledge all the way around the top of the tank for the lid, i've got one jammed against the wall and the other one sticky taped to the side  so that brings me to cannister filters now I would go fluval but they are to dam expensive so I looked at aqua one canisters and I found and aqua one 1000 or something for $116 and is recommended for a 200 litre tank so would that be suitable and are they an alright filter?

Tetratec do some quality external filters. Can't go much wrong with those. Easy to set up and maintain and pretty much silent.

i agree..plus fluval arent actually that good..quite noisy
if you wanted to spend a little more and get quality you would be better with an eheim
