Hallo :look:

I was wondering if anybody could reccomend a good filter for a 60 litre hex tank as I think mine is a bit pants.
It is kind of a built in filter, well it looks like it was made for that particular tank.

I assume that if a flake of food was floating around the tank and it went near the filter tube that it would supposedly get sucked up? well not in my tank it doesn't it floats along on it's merry way until a fish eats it or I get bored of watching to see where it ends up :grr:.

Usually when I do a water change a load of crap (not the fishes, just bits of leaves and mouldy food etc) floats to the top and I've to scoop it out with a net.

I will be adding possibly another 5 -8 fish to whats already there over the next few months, so the filter would have to cope with that too.

anyone got any ideas? :/

I would first clean out the existing filter to see if it will do a better job. Clean the sponges and the impeller (preferably) in old tank water.

If that does not work you could try one of the Fluval internals. Remove the existing filter and add the Fluval.

:D Are u sure u need a new filter because it sounds to me as if you are over feeding.

If your fish don't eat all the food you give to them in 2 minutes max thats to much. Its also very important for you scoop out any food particles left over. Food dissolves into the water and its then broken down by the filter. Try feeding a little less for a few weeks and skip 1 day a week from feeding to.

If you still need a new filter go for any of the following just make sure its for at least a 60L tank.

PennPlax Cascade or
Fluval (Fluval more widely used)

Spare parts for fluval are easy to get in the future to.

Hope I helped.
