hi all,

just a quick question regarding my filter. If i need to change it because its on its way out, so i do a straight swap with a brand new filter, or do add the new one for a few days before i take out the old one?

All you good media is in your old filter, so swapping would start your cycle over. If you buy the same brand, just put the old media in the new filter, otherwise run the two filters in parallel for about 6 weeks to ensure the new one cycles and you don't have any issues.

Most media can be adapted to be put in different filters, so just put all the old media into the new filter

+1, if you can, move *all* the old media into the new filter.

If you have to run the filters in parallel because you can not move the media, it should be done for 6 weeks or so.. I consider 4 weeks to be the absolute minimum.
