Hi all,
I`ll shortly be getting a 160ltr corner aquarium that comes supplied with an Aqua one cf 700 filter, I`ve done a search and the posts are all a couple of years old and I was wondering if anyone had any more up to date views ?

My other concern was that the capacity of the filter is about the same as the volume of the tank, should I upgrade ?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Supplied filters usually do "just enough" for a very sparsely populated aquarium. If you want an excellent upgrade send £90 to ZooPlus and get an Eheim 2224.

If you stock your tank more heavily over time, add a second 2224.

I find that filters are plenty big that are supplied with a tank. I do not expect my filters to do a gravel vac's job, I do that with the gravel vac. The filters do a nice job of processing fish organics, ammonia and its results. They do not do the tank cleaning that high flow filters can do but I do not expect my filters to do that job. Some of my tanks are way overstocked compared to any sane stocking system and their standard filters do a fine job of handling the ammonia and other biological wastes. Those tanks do need my help in controlling nitrates and cleaning the substrate to keep things healthy.

i would council that the cf 700 is woefully under powered for a 160l tank. i suggest 2 or, looking for a filter, type, upgrade.

I would go for a aqua one filter but go for a larger one, i have a eheim prof 2224 and a cf 1000 running and the aqua one filter gives me no trouble at all the eheim however the pipes get blocked and it requires regular maitenence and after googleing and speaking on here about the problem it seems it happens to quite alot of people, just my novice opinion but i would say a larger aqua one

Thanks for the help guys

She who must be obeyed decided to make room for a standard tank so I`ve got a tank with an overhead filter
