Hi,

I've got a Fluval Duo Deep 600 set-up (84 litre tank) which came with a Fluval 2 Plus Internal filter. I'm thinking of changing to an external filter, but as I'm quite new to all this, I'm not sure if it is worth the extra cost.

The existing filter works ok, but the water never seems to be crystal clear and there is always loads of mess at the bottom of the tank even though I do a 20% water change and gravel clean every 10 days. Would an external filter improve this and if so any recommendations? Also, can I run an internal and external filter together, or would that upset the fish...?

I've currently got 5 adult fish (2 mollies, 3 platies) and about 15 molly babies which are about 2.5 months old.

Any suggestions / thoughts gratefully accepted! Cheers.

I would suggest a ac 150 or mini I think the 150 is now called a 30 and the mini a 20 the adition of either of these would definately help and could support your tank by themselves but if you have no other use for your current filter it is beneficial to keep it in. None of this though is necesary your filtration is fine it will help your tank stay cleaner and healthier for your fish something else to consider to take out some of the finer particles would be to add filter floss to a filter in the tank
